PRINCIPAL'S NOTES

June 12, 2008

PRAYERS NEEDED FOR THE SCOUTS - As I’m sure you have heard by now, four boys were killed and several others were injured at the Little Sioux Boy Scout Camp last night.  One of the scouts that lost his life is Aaron Eilerts, 14, of Eagle Grove, Iowa.  He is the nephew of St. Pat’s parent, Lori Batenhorst and her husband, Dean. His cousins are 2008 graduate, Kenny and, 6th grader, Jacob Batenhorst.  Our 4th grade teacher, Deb Brown’s son, Tobin Brown, who is an 8th grader at our school, attended the camp as well. Tobin survived the tornado and thankfully was not hurt. Please keep these boy scouts and their families who were involved in this tragic incident in your prayers.

TEACHER HIRING FINALIZED – We would like to introduce the newest additions to our staff for the 2008-2009 school year. They are both very enthusiastic and highly motivated teachers that will continue to maintain the quality education offered at St. Patrick’s. We welcome them and look forward to working with them both.

AMANDA BAUMERT (GABBE)- 2ND GRADE TEACHER- I graduated from Howells High School in 2004.   I then attended Midland Lutheran College and graduated in May of 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.  My elementary school experience was in a Catholic school.  I have very fond memories of that time and believe it provided me with a solid foundation on which to build my future.  I want to provide that kind of experience for the students I come in contact with.  There is no better place to do that in than a Catholic school.  I am extremely excited to be a part of St. Patrick’s School. The job was a perfect fit for me. I am eager to meet all of the staff and students at the school.  The supportive community at St. Pat’s is a great place to begin my teaching career, and I look forward to making my second grade classroom come alive. I am eagerly awaiting some life-changes!  On July 5th, I will marry Josh Grabbe, and will become Mrs. Grabbe.  My supportive family is excited to have Josh join our family.  My parents are Terry Baumert and Donna Baumert. I have three sisters (Sarah, Mallory, and Madison) as well as a nephew, (Levi) and a brother-in-law. (Todd)  I love my family and enjoy spending time with all of them!

KARI BRAMMELL(TRUAX) – MIDDLE SCHOOL READING/SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER – I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with Minors in History and Psychology from Pittsburg State University at Pittsburg, Kansas in December of 2002.  Since that time, I taught in a rural school in Kansas teaching 7th and 8th grade Language Arts for 2 years.  Then, I moved to the Omaha area to be closer to family.  I am continuing my education at UNO to complete my Masters program in the fall of 2009.  I believe that the combination of character education, religious and moral teaching, as well as a strong emphasis on academics make for a well rounded individual.  Developing the students of St. Patrick’s and helping them grow into these well-rounded members of the community is a challenge that I embrace. I feel it is a privilege to be a part of this at St. Patrick’s Catholic School.  I am SUPER EXCITED for the year to begin so that I can develop relationships and help the students at St. Pat’s be their best. My mom, dad, sister, grandma, aunt and uncle, and other extended family all live in the Omaha area.  I am fortunate to have so much support.  I have a beautiful 2 year old son, Colt, and am getting married on Aug. 16th, 2008. Yes, that is right!  The date has been moved up because my fiancé, Jason Truax, received his pending orders from the U.S. Marines that he will be deployed to Iraq in the fall.  The support of my family and my St. Patrick’s School family will help me immensely during his deployment.

TEACHER MEET AND GREET – On Sunday, August 3rd, all families can come and learn who their child’s teacher is for the 2008-2009 school year as well as establish their lunch and extended care accounts, sign up for Home and School committees, approve entries into the directory, etc.  Several teachers will be available at this time for you and your child to meet.

SCRIP TIP - Don’t forget that following all masses on June 14th & June 15th – we will have your SCRIP cash rebate available!  (To qualify, you must have profited $5 or more for the school!) Our SCRIP program profited a total of $10,993.64 from June 1, 2007 through May 31, 2008!  We will be giving back $2,983.68 to our parish & school families!  And we’ll be using approximately $3,300 to purchase items for the new Library Media Center!  Thanks for your continued support of our St. Pat’s SCRIP program!
