INFORMATION ON THE NEW BUILDING PROGRESS –Thank God for two nice days this last week.  We were able to pack the ground so we could begin to pour the footings.  Our major goal right now is to get as much built as possible so that the building can be closed in before the snow flies.  We could sure use your prayers in asking God to send us a mild winter and hope the snow flies after January.  I’m sorry kids but to have no snow days this year would  be a good thing.

INTERNET/PUBLICITY PREFERENCES – If you do not want your child’s picture or name appearing in any type of media or publication for St. Patrick’s School, would you please contact the school office with your preference by August 31st.

SICK CHILDREN – If your child is sick and will not be in school, we are asking that you email the school office, at kmoritz@stpatselkhorn.org and sgrewe@stpatselkhorn.org.  We also suggest you email your child’s teacher/s.

CHILDREN WALKING TO & FROM SCHOOL – If you choose to have your child/children walk to/from you must fill out a form and assume responsibility!  Copies of the forms are in the school office.

WALKING TO AND FROM SCHOOL FORM

SAFETY ISSUES – I want to thank all of our parents, grandparents, friends, etc. for making the morning and afternoon traffic flow safe and smooth.  With the new school year, all the new parents, and our new construction beginning, all has gone quite well. Construction can be very frustrating and it can cause delays in our schedules. We have all decided from the beginning that we were not going to let the construction cause us to be late in the morning or in the afternoon.  Way to go. The Safety Committee and I would like to thank you again for making all the children at St. Patrick’s a priority!  I am very PLEASED to note that we have had several days with no tardies.

WEDNESDAY RF CLASSES BEGIN– On Wednesday nights, the Religious Formation classes begin at 4:00pm.  The RF uses the front curb lane to drop off students beginning at 3:45pm.  Parents and caregivers picking up your children for Extended Care need to park in the parking stalls and come into the school to pick up their children.  Please do not use the drop off zone to park and run into the building.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR COMPUTERS - Over the past years, we have been fortunate to receive many quality computers from Mutual of Omaha. Sadly though, it is looking as if this good fortune may not continue.  Therefore, if you are a part of a large company and you would be interested in helping us, we are in need of desktop or laptop computers.  They must be at least a Pentium IV and capable of running Windows XP 2003.  Please contact Don Ridder @ 289-5407 for any information.

EXTENDED CARE ASSISTANT POSITION NEEDED – Our wonderful Extended Care Director, Dana Gerten, is seeking an assistant that loves to care for children in her program before and/or after school for a few hours Monday through Friday when school is in session.  The hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30am – 7:45am and/or 3:15pm – 6:00pm.  If you are interested send your letter of application and resume to Mr. Ridder at ridderd@stpatselkhorn.org.

LOST & FOUND – Please remind your children to check the Lost & Found, which is placed the corner of the entrance of the school, between the glass doors.  Lunch boxes, sweatshirts, school supplies etc… are left behind day after day.  It is a good idea to put your child’s name on each item as well, so that it is easier to claim.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING AT ST. PATRICK’S - You can get your initial Safe Environment Training here at St. Patrick’s…This will be available in the Parish Center on Saturday, October 13th from 9am to Noon.  If you have already received you initial training, you can get re-certified on Tuesday, September 18th from 6:30 to 9:00pm.  Anyone who works with children must have this training.  Please attempt to have that training as soon as possible.  If you plan to attend, please call the school office and let them know @289-5407.

FIRST HOME & SCHOOL MEETING - Our 1st Home and School meeting will be Tuesday, Sept 4th at 7p.m. in the gym entrance.   We will be discussing potential changes in our SCRIP program, YOUR money donations, and a few more minor things to get the school year off to a great start.  We will have childcare available for 2.00 per child for the night.  We have some new and fresh ideas to share and vote on.  Please mark your calendars and plan on attending!  A prize drawing will be held so don't miss your chance to win FREE St. Pat's apparel!!!!! We Will See You There!!!

Staci Witkowski, Home and School President ‘07-‘08

There will be a parent sign-up meeting on Thursday, September 13th at 6pm at the school in room 220.  The meetings for 1st and 2nd grade Brownies will be the second Thursday of the month from 5:30 (2nd grade)/5:45 (1st grade) until 6:30 starting in October. At this time, there is not a leader for the Daisy group (Kindergarten), but there is a person willing to co-lead with someone else.  If you are interested in co-leading Daisies, please contact Michele Zadalis at 965-8449.  For more information or questions, please contact Debbie Otwell at 614-4032.  Thank you!

JOIN THE BAND -Registration for Music in Catholic Schools (MCS) band classes will take place next Tuesday, September 4 at St. James/Seton (4720 N. 90th St.) from 7-8:30 in the Media Center.  Lessons are given twice per week at St. Patrick’s.  For more information you can visit the MCS web page.   http://www.archomaha.com/MCS/Home.html

HY VEE SMILES – Beginning in August, our school has the opportunity to win up to $5,000 through Hy Vee’s “Smiles for Education” program.  Each week for 10 weeks, Hy Vee will hold drawing to select 10 winning students, for a total of 100 winners by the end of the program.  Each of those students will receive a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop computer, and each of their schools will receive a donation of $5,000 from Hy Vee.  Winning schools and students may also be featured on the local TV news. We encourage parents, teachers and staff from your school to join us in the “Smiles for Education” program by visiting their local Hy Vee store and registering their students’ names for the drawing.  Here are some ideas for spreading the word    and getting your community involved.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION UPDATE- After only 9 full days of school we have amassed 2600 BoxTops for Education. That is the equivalent of $260.00. Keep those Box Tops and Bonus Box Tops for Education coming. If you send them into school with your child, their classroom teacher will make sure that they get to me.

Any questions? danielak@stpatselkhorn.org.
