INFORMATION ON THE NEW BUILDING PROGRESS – Our fantastic building crew is busy at work.  We are proud to share that the foundation of our newest addition is beginning to take form.  The footings are poured, the plumbing and electrical work is underway, and the piping and wiring is being set up.  Thank you all for your support in our mission here at St. Patrick’s School.  Pray for our continued support in our Capital Campaign, and thanksgiving to all who are behind our goal.    Continue to look on our school website www.stpatselkhorn.org for updated pictures of the progress.

DEAR ST. PATRICK’S FAMILIES,

As many of you know, my husband and I are originally from Maine.  We have been gone for 11 years and it has always been our dream to go back home.  This summer that opportunity presented itself.  My husband has been offered a job in Maine.  On the same day he has accepted the job, we also sold our home.  He has to start work very soon and we will be going with him.  Therefore, I am very sad to say that I will be leaving St. Patrick's.  Friday, September 7th will be my last day (as long as everything works out with our house).   Although I am excited to go home, I will miss St. Patrick's terribly.  I have worked in one way or another in the education field for 14 years and can honestly say that St. Patrick's has been the best experience.  I will leave here having learned so much and with the most wonderful memories.  I have been blessed to have worked at St. Pat's and can only hope to find as wonderful of a place in Maine.  Thank you for allowing me to learn from and love your children.  If you're ever in Maine, stop by for a lobsta!

God Bless,

Mrs. Rombalski

PICTURE DAY IS COMING AT ST. PATRICK’S SCHOOL – On Sept. 13th & 14th; we will be taking school pictures. This year we plan to make it mandatory that ALL STUDENTS wear their SCHOOL UNIFORM along with their SWEATER for pictures (sweaters may be taken off after pictures are finished). Look for a picture envelope for ordering and a schedule to come home with your child. On Thursday the 13th, the PreS and 1st grade will have their pictures taken.  On Friday the 14th, the rest of the school, PreK, K, 2nd through 8th grades, will take their pictures.  Please make sure that your child looks presentable as this picture will be what is used for the yearbook. We, also, intend to have Lifetouch come to take spring pictures as well. At that time, we will allow appropriate dress down clothing to be worn for those pictures.

PARKING LOT CHANGES – The road construction crew is ahead of schedule and as a result, the south and east entrances will be open the middle to end of next week. Therefore, for morning drop-off, you may come into the parking lot via those entrances and the north access road and then merge into the drop off traffic on the east end of the parking lot. The opening of those two entrances will help with the afternoon pickup as well.  However, the parking lot entrances will continue to be closed off @3:20 for the safety of all children.  Lot #1 will continue to leave via the north access road, Lot #2 & the north side of Lot #4 will leave either the north access road or the east exit.

SPECIAL NOTE:  The east exit will only allow right turns (southbound) and we continue to expect everyone leaving the southwest exit to go west.  The south side of Lot #3, Lot #4 and Lot #5 will continue to leave via the southwest exit.  Lastly, the safety committee and I would like to thank you for your total cooperation with all the road construction and our parking lot directions.

CHILDREN WALKING TO & FROM SCHOOL – If you choose to have your child/children walk to/from you must fill out a form and assume responsibility!  Copies of the forms are in the school office, or you may retrieve one below.

We are looking for experienced cutters with mats and rotary cutters to spend time cutting the squares on the 8th.  Don't know how to cut?  No problem, we have a job for you, bagging and tagging squares, along with pressing Wonder-Under onto material and cutting die-cuts.  No one will be turned away!  Can't come for the whole time, come for a portion of the time---many hands are needed for this special memento of our parish children's 1st Eucharist in the spring of 2008.  (Squares and die-cuts need to be ready for our 1st parent/child retreat to be held the weekend of September 29th/30th.) Our quilt coordinators for this year are:  Sue Bart, Lynn Craig, Pat Hertel, Julie Kirby and Mary Jo Lofgren.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR COMPUTERS - Over the past years, we have been fortunate to receive many quality computers from Mutual of Omaha. Sadly though, it is looking as if this good fortune may not continue.  Therefore, if you are a part of a large company and you would be interested in helping us, we are in need of desktop or laptop computers.  They must be at least a Pentium IV and capable of running Windows XP 2003.  Please contact Don Ridder @ 289-5407 for any information.

HY VEE SMILES – Beginning in August, our school has the opportunity to win up to $5,000 through Hy Vee’s “Smiles for Education” program.  Each week for 10 weeks, Hy Vee will hold drawing to select 10 winning students, for a total of 100 winners by the end of the program.  Each of those students will receive a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop computer, and each of their schools will receive a donation of $5,000 from Hy Vee.  Winning schools and students may also be featured on the local TV news. We encourage parents, teachers and staff from your school to join us in the “Smiles for Education” program by visiting their local Hy Vee store and registering their students’ names for the drawing.  Here are some ideas for spreading the word    and getting your community involved.
