MR. RIDDER’S REMINDERS

May 20          Last Day of School Today –11:00am Dismissal AND Dress Down Day

Aug 3            Teacher Meet and Greet

Aug 8            St. Patrick’s Golf Outing @ Tiburon

Aug 20          First Day of School for 2008-2009 School Year

DID YOU KNOW… last Thursday, St. Patrick’s Catholic School graduated 25 wonderful students? We are proud to announce that 100% plan to attend a Catholic high school in the Omaha/Elkhorn area.  Our ultimate goal for every St. Patrick’s graduate is that they are prepared to excel at the high school of their choice.  Our past two graduating classes have proven that, and I feel very confident that each student of this 2008 graduating class will follow this tradition.

WE ARE THRILLED TO INTRODUCE ANOTHER AWESOME HIRE-

CATHERINE FEGAN – MIDDLE SCHOOL LANGUAGE ARTS & READING TEACHER –I received my undergraduate degree from Cornell University in 2000.  I hold a master’s degree in English literature from Fordham University as well as a master’s degree in teaching.  I have taught a number of grade levels.  I volunteered as a fourth grade religion teacher at my local parish and spent time teaching English at a community college while working on my graduate degrees.  During the 2007-2008 year, I had the pleasure of teaching ninth and tenth grade English literature at Albertus Magnus High School, a Catholic school in New York.  My three siblings and I attended Albertus Magnus, so it was certainly a wonderful experience coming back as a teacher.  It was quite an honor.  In some ways, I felt as though I had never left!

My parents always stressed the value both of having faith in God and working hard in school.  As immigrants to the United States, they worked and sacrificed so they could send my three siblings and me to Catholic school for grades K-12.  As an adult, I now can better appreciate what their sacrifices meant.  They wanted my two brothers, my sister, and I to have the best of both worlds: to learn in good schools and to be in an environment with a faith-based values system.  I am to help other children in the same way that my own parents and teachers did.

I am absolutely thrilled to be part of such a dynamic and accomplished faculty and to be around fine, quality students!  I am new to Omaha: I am originally from New York.  Still, I think of myself as now having two new places to call home: the city of Omaha and my lovely little family here at St. Patrick’s!  I feel blessed and most fortunate to have been a student of Catholic schools for 12 years and even happier to now be teaching in an environment devoted to the learning and the ways of Christ.  Indeed, I have much to be thankful for.

My parents are originally from Ireland, and they have been in the United States for over forty years now.  My heritage remains of great importance to me.  My mother passed plenty of tasty Irish recipes to me.  We travel back and forth to Ireland a lot to visit family, and even have a house of our own next to my grandmother’s.  It is great fun!

I am one of four children.  I have two older brothers, one older sister, many first cousins, seven nieces and nephews, two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and a brown and black doggy named Pepper.  I am a busy lady keeping up with the goings-on of such a big family. On July 26, 2008, I will marry Christopher Curley, a student at Creighton University.  My fiancé and I enjoy cooking and traveling when we have time off.

END OF THE YEAR LUNCH ACCOUNTS - We want to thank everyone who supports St. Patrick’s lunch program. With the end of school year, we MUST receive payment for all negative lunch account balances.  Families with unpaid lunch account balances will not receive their child/ren’s report cards. If your family has a positive lunch account balance, no checks will be issued and positive balances carry-over to next year. For updates on your lunch account contact the school office by 5-20-2008 at 289-5407.  Report cards and/or transfers will not be attainable until all bills are paid.

MEDICINE REPOSSESSION – If you supplied medicine for your child to be administered while at school you will need to pick it up by May, 20th (Last day of school).  Any medicine not picked up will have to be disposed of on May 21st. We can not allow children to carry the meds out of the office.  The parent must come in to pick it up.

LOST AND FOUND – There are still many items to be picked up on the Lost and Found table in front of the office.  Please take some time to look through the table to see if anything on it belongs to your children.  We plan to send the remaining items on Wednesday, May 21st to less fortunate children who could use them.

ECOMMUNICATIONS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER – We will continue communicating with parents throughout the summer months.  Watch for “Ecommunications” on the subject line of your email to stay on top of what is going on at St. Patrick’s School.

SUMMER OFFICE HOURSThe school office will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. throughout the summer months.  We wish everyone a safe and blessed summer.  Please note the school office will be closed at 1:00pm the last day of school, Monday, May 26th in observance of Memorial Day, and Friday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.

MR. RIDDER GOES TO UGANDA – Many of you may not be aware that I plan to travel to Uganda and spend time with the staff and students of our sister school, St. Mary’s.  I leave June 17th and return July 3rd with a group from “Opportunity Education” which provides materials and support to less fortunate schools in other countries.  I look forward to learning more about their school and sharing a video of ours.  I hope to return with many interesting facts that I can pass on to our students in the fall. Please pray for St. Mary’s students and teachers and for our group’s safe travels.
