6th Grade
SUSAN DOBEL – 6TH GRADE I graduated in 2003 from Skutt Catholic High School. I then attended Rockhurst University in Kansas City for a year, but missed home a lot and moved back to Omaha to attend Creighton University. I graduated from Creighton in May of 2007 with a degree in Elementary Education. I have spent this past school year substitute teaching while working on my Masters in reading at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
I did my student teaching and most of my practicum work in public schools. While it was a tremendous learning experience for me, it showed me that I do not want to separate my faith from my work. A Catholic education is one of the greatest gifts I received from my parents.
The first time I walked into St. Patrick’s, everyone was so welcoming. The positive atmosphere made me feel comfortable right away and it was clear to me that St. Patrick’s was the place for me. I am excited to teach in a place with such a strong sense of community. I have coached basketball at Skutt Catholic for the past two years and have seen how a strong faith background influences all aspects of a student’s character. I am excited about sharing my faith with the students and I look forward to getting to know them and their families throughout the year.
I grew up in Omaha and am the third of four children. My parents still live in town so I get to see them often.
Chris teaches 6th grade English and Science and also be teaches 7th and 8th grade religion. "Teaching at St. Patrick’s has been a real blessing for me as a professional and as a mother.” Chris first became interested in St. Patrick’s as a parent. She and her husband, Scott enrolled their oldest son in 2001. “Once we became involved with St. Patrick’s as parents and experienced the level of committed parents, parish members and school staff, I wanted to be a part of that environment professionally as well. It has been all I had hoped for and more! I have never experienced a group of teachers so committed to being their best; they strive to bring out the best in all students as well. ”
Chris began teaching at St. Patrick’s in 2003-04. Prior to that, she spent 12 years in Catholic Education serving inner city schools as a teacher and a principal. “Catholic Schools provide us with an excellent opportunity to share and develop our Catholic faith. I want my students to know that our faith permeates all we do and all we are.”
“Discipline With Purpose is a program I feel very passionately about. There is not a single day that goes by that I do not use something I learned to help me be a better teacher and a better parent.” It is that level of passion that led Chris to become our parent trainer for DWP. She trains other parents on how to use DWP in their homes. “When we can make connections from home to school, our children see that we are a team. We all want to help them learn how to grow up. It’s a powerful tool.”
Chris spends her free time loving and caring for her family, participating in, and watching her family participate in sports, reading and learning.
I am looking forward to becoming a member of the St. Pat’s “family”. My family has lived in the Elkhorn area for about two years now. My husband Tom and I were both born and raised in Omaha and have lots of extended family here. We have two teenagers, Marissa and Matthew. I have been lucky enough to be a stay-at-home mom for many years, working various part-time jobs. After many years of volunteering at my children’s Catholic grade school I began substituting for the teachers assistants. I really enjoyed working with the kids at all grade levels and look forward to getting to know the children and families at St. Pat’s. Everyone here has already been so welcoming and I am excited about getting started on a great year. |
